Valencia can be best described as very friendly and clarifying. The old parts of the city can easily be explored by foot. Tip: the best city map available is called 'Plano Callejero' and can be bought in the Tourist Info in the centre next to the 'Teatro Principal'.

Valencia - El Carmen
El Carmen is the cultural centre of Valencia. Currently it's becoming a flourishing hotspot in the middle of an old district with a lot of little streets with lots of dinings, boutiques, funk & vintage and typical Spanish goods such as hand-held fans, combs, espadrilles and embroidered clothes. The now fashionable area is situated in the old part of the city with a museum of modern art (Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno) and other art attractions.
Valencia - Casco Antiguo
There are a lot of small streets in the medieval heart of the city which can perfectly be seen from the top of the Torre del Miguelette, part of the cathedral. When you look closely you can spot the mediterranean sea. Don't forget to visit the 'Plaza de la Reina' and 'Plaza del Avuntamiento', as well as the central 'Mercado' and the Gothic Silk market; one of the oldest markets of Europe.
Valencia - El Ensanche
If you are in the mood to go shopping in Valencia, you'll have to make sure you won't miss El Ensanche. This is the place where you will find all the designer shops, interior stores, the important fashion brands and also a few first-class restaurants. The 'Colon' street is the most important street of the 'El Ensanche' area.
Valencia - Parque Jardines Del Turia
The Eixample area with art nouveau architecture is situated next to the Turia Park (Parque Jardines del Turia). The river which once flowed through the city is resolved (because of big floods) and is currently transformed into a fantastic city park. The Valencians love to run and bike in this spot and there can be found a lot of ponds and fountains. A perfect view with sight on the bridges, sometimes provided with holy statues.
Valencia - Russafa
South of the old, historical city you will find Russafa, original a Moorish centre. There are still a lot of Moroccan tearooms but also lots of trendy bars, restaurants and cafés.
Valencia - Port & Playa
Valencia has got two beautiful beaches, Arenas and Malvarossa. The beaches are situated near the marina. The marina was specially constructed for the America's Cup, the world-famous sailing race, which took place in July 2007. You'll find here the hottest clubs and popular beach bars ever since. |
