> PARIS > AREAS

In Paris, areas are called 'arrondissements', how chic. The 20 arrondissements are indicated with numbers. Number one starts off in the heart of Paris; the other numbers are lying around it in the shape of a spiral. It's a useful method to find the way for the Parisians; tourists will need some time to get used to it though…

> Paris – Beauborg
> Paris – Champs-Elysees
> Paris – Grand Boulevard
> Paris – l'Hotel de Ville
> Paris – Les Invalides
> Paris - Louvre
> Paris - Marais

Paris – Beauborg
Beauborg is a busy district, but also a cozy one. It's swarming with shopping people, tourists and students. Especially young people head to the controversial shopping-centre 'Les Halles' to visit the more affordable shops. A bit further is located one of the most famous highlights of Paris: the Centre Pompidou, an exceptional museum of steel, glass, brightly colored tubes and glass lifts.

Paris – Champs-Elysees
The long and chic shopping street 'Avenue des Champs-Elysees' belongs to the 8th arrondissement. You'll also find here the well-known 'Arc de Triomphe', 'Jardin des Tuileries' and close to it the world-famous 'Musée du Louvre'. Those highlights are situated in a perfectly formed line thanks to Baron Haussmann's ingenious street map.

Paris – Grand Boulevard
The Grand Boulevards are avenues with a odd ambiance around it, located north of the Paris city centre. However, because of the many people, traffic and terraces, it's very cozy in the avenues.

Paris – l'Hotel de Ville
This area owes its name to the Renaissance building, on the right bank of the river 'Seine', which is now the city hall: Hotel de Ville. There is an authentic way of day life which changes into a dynamic nightlife culture in the evening. If you're looking for the most trendy bars, restaurants and clubs you'll have to check out this district.

Paris – Les Invalides
The most visited hotspot of Paris is located here: the 'Eiffel tower', with a hight of 320 meters. More than 6 million tourists visit this structure every year. On the edge of this chic area, which is full of embassies, is one of the most beautiful museums of Paris located: the 'Musée d'Orsay'.

Paris - Louvre
The First arrondissement, with by far the most touristic attractions, is the 'Louvre', with the 'Louvre Museum', 'The Palais Royal', 'Les Halles' and the 'Gardens of Tuileries'. The Louvre is situated in the centre of Paris and is one of oldest parts of Paris which finds its origin in the medieval. Louvre is the most sparsely populated 'arrondissement' but also one of the most visited.

Paris - Marais
A rustic ambiance is what you'll find in the heart of the charming, old Jewish area called 'Le Marais'. With lots of streets to wander for hours amongst jewelry stores, workshops, designer shops, and galleries, this is a great area to spend the afternoon. Le Marais is really starting off around lunch-time. There are many culinary shops, cafes and bars. Le Marais belongs to the 4th arrondissement.

Paris - Montmartre
In the 18th arrondissement you'll find 'Montmartre', 'Place du Tetre' and of course the 'Sacre Coeur'. Montmartre is basically a small village in a district on a little mountain. Back in the 19th century it was the hotspot for authors, poets, composers and painters such as Dali, Picasso and Van Gogh. Even though most of the artists are gone, a lot of the old village character has still been preserved.

Paris - Quartier Latin
Quartier Latin (5th arrondissement) houses the famous university of 'La Sorbonne', which has been (and still is) for more than 700 years the academic centre of Paris. It was a tradition here to speak Latin, therefore the name 'Quartier Latin'. Meanwhile the Latin has given way for French, English and other languages. It now is a multicultural student district.

Paris - Republique
Here starts a area which is better known as 'Le Marais'. One of the oldest areas of Paris, the 3th arrondissement, with houses built in the 17th century. The houses are transformed into restaurants, cafes and shops. The 'Place de la Republique' also is situated in this district, and an important orientation point in Paris.

Paris - St. Germain
St. Germain des Pres, or just 'St. Germain', is a very chic and trendy artist area on the left bank of the river 'Seine'. Here you'll find a lot of cafes, restaurants, antique shops and galleries. When you are blessed with a well-filled wallet and in search of the latest fashion, you're at the right place.

Paris - St. Martin
St. Martin is the area where the Parisians love to spend some time themselves. Not well known to tourists yet, but a perfect place to have a brunch.
