In Lisbon there are a lot of districts, divided over seven hills. Every district has his own character. We recommend you to take a city plan with you. In the small, picturesque streets you can get lost very easily. Don't forget to take a ride with tram 28. For a couple of Euros you can make a ride through all the nice beautiful districts.

Lisbon - Alfama & Graca
Alfama was one of the oldest and poorest districts of Lisbon and is recently completely renovated. There are showing up more and more nice shops, restaurants, bars and terraces where you can drink delicious coffee. Alfama has got small, picturesque streets and it is also possible here to go to the discotheque Lux, where you have to chance to meet the owner and actor John Malkovich. From the castle Castelo de Sao Jorge you have a great view over the city.
Just as Alfama, but a little less famous is Graca. It has a beautiful view over the river and the city at the church. Graca is nice to get lost in and is less touristic than Alfama.
Lisbon - Amoreiras
The district Amoreiras is famous about Lisbon's biggest shopping centre, the futuristic 'Amoreiras Shopping'. It is opened in 1985 and was the first shopping mall in Portugal. Architect Tomás Taveira based the concept on the Brazilian designs of shopping malls with many small entrances, what makes it more easier to come in. That is nice for the shopping, but also to visit the building. From Amoreiras the city is easily to explore by taxi or bus.
Lisbon - Area Expo 98
The Expo 98 was held in Parque das Nações, a mix of living areas, special attractions and the river Tejo. You will find there among others the Oceanário, one of the biggest aquariums of the world. The skyline cableway above the water connects the tower with the Oceanário and offers a great view.

Lisbon - Bairro Alto & Chiado
In the middle of Lisbon, at on one of the seven hills of the city, is the uptown district Bairro Alto situated. You have to visit Bairro Alto at night. There are many terraces, bars and Fado cafes. By day the Avenida the Liberdade is a good street for shopping. All shops of the famous fashion designers are present.
Lisbon - Belem
In the west of the city, alongside the Rio Tego lays the district Belem, the green district for people who love art. Here are many museums and parks to find. At the moment the Docas is hot, because of the old depots with restaurants, clubs and bars. There also rides a small train between the cultural hotspots.
Lisbon - Campo de Ourique
Campo de Ourique is just a small village in the big city. A real Portuguese working-class quarter with many local shops. Here you can visit the house of the famous Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa.
Lisbon - Docas
Alongside the water at the big bridge of the Taag the going out centre of the city is situated. In Docas you find old depots which are turned into restaurants and bars.
Lisbon - Lapa & Santos
Lapa is one of the more or less better districts of Lisbon and has got a beautiful park, an ago-old monastery of Nossa Senhora da estrela and the Nacional de Arte Antiga museum, with a collection of European and Asiatic art.
Santos is called the designers district of Lisbon, because it has got many galleries and . The district is visited a lot by artists and students. There are many jazz bars and cafes.
Lisbon - Rato & Estrela
Rato and Estrela are very respected neighborhoods in Lisbon and are situated just west from Bairro Alto. The park Jardim de Estrela is an oasis in the middle of the city with his exotic gardens, child playgrounds and cafes. Don't forget to visit the beautiful Basilic de Estrela. |
