Oh, the romantic Florence, where at night you can imagine yourself in ancient times, you can get lost in the impressive museums and the sweet small Italian alleys and where the food is always of an extreme quality.
The Florence culture-shock
As everywhere in Italy, in Florence as well you stumble over the antiquity. But nowhere you can admire the Roman art and expanded culture as in Florence, in the heart of Toscane. Hence, lovers of museums, sculpted art and cathedrals found their heaven here. You can visit for example the Uffizi (45 exposition rooms centuries old art of among others Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo), the Duomo Santa Maria del Fior (gigantic cathedral with beautiful dome which is the face of Florence) and the palazzo Pitti (monumental palace, where again you’ll find 6 museums!). And so we can continue for a while..
Buying, buying..
Finished with admiring art? Then there is enough left to enjoy in this real Italian city. Shopping for instance. Especially in the north of the Arno, nearby the station, in the district Santa Maria Novella. The Via Vigna Nuova and Via the Tornabuoni are two quite elegant streets, with as well very elegant stores. For the smaller stores and art-dealers you can go to Santa Spirito, where after shopping you can wander around perfectly.
Food lovers in Florence
Italy wouldn’t be Italy if couldn’t eat all day long, while doing it delightfully. Well, to be honest, the breakfast isn’t that impressive (a sweet roll with a caffè or a cappuccino at the bar), but be prepared for lunch. Between 12.00 and 15.00 you can find almost everywhere fresh pasta, which is a starter for the Italians, but for the not-Italians it is often more than enough. In the evenings you can have a delightful dinner or just go for a pizza, which you normally only can eat at night and just in a pizzeria.. The well know dish of Italy si actually a kind of a snack for the inhabitants. |
